It’s pretty well recognized in the field of psychology that people sometimes say things they don’t intend to. The things we say are often influenced by something important but unacknowledged.
Some feelings may seem unacceptable, scary, foolish, and so forth. One method of dealing with that sort of feeling is to convince ourselves we don’t really feel that way. The problem is, if we don’t like our feelings they don’t just vanish, and will come out in one way or another. It works better to understand and acknowledge that our feelings are real even though we sometimes don’t like them. This can allow us to start evaluating, processing, and either accepting or changing them.
